Making a beeline for Manipur : Of institutes and courses
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: June 22 2015 -
Career choices. This is true for many students who have opted to go in for professional courses, now that results of the plus 2 examinations have been declared.
So young students who have already managed to get into some of the more preferred courses such as medical, engineering, MBA in one of the reputed institutions, the five year LLB courses and others, the choice of their stream of subject may have decided their career path.
However not all would have preferred to go in for the professional courses, instead opting for the general course, such bachelor degrees in Science, Arts or Commerce.
Unfortunately with college education here reduced to a pathetic state of affairs, numerous students must have gone outside the State.
This is a shame for the Government and of course the numerous pressure groups here, which have never hesitated in playing around with the academic pursuit of the young students.
With the State not having much to offer by way of college education, it is therefore not surprising to see numerous institutions coming to town and hardselling themselves.
A look at some of the more widely circulated newspapers should more than suffice.
It says something profound that numerous educational institutions have deemed it fit to come here and try to grab the attention of the young students, their parents and elders.
While this is a testament that numerous educational institutes see the young students here fit to be called for admission, on the other hand it also exposes how pathetic is the state of higher education here.
Tough to imagine that any of these institutions would rush to places like Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore.
The rush of academic institutions, universities or places of learning to Manipur at this point of time every year should have woken up the State Government a long time back but the slumber continues.
With no choice left, the young students, parents and elders must have surely welcomed the publicity drive taken up by the different educational institutions, never mind the huge cost that it would entail.
And it is here that students, the parents and the elders need to be able to question and be clear about what they want.
Education today is no longer merely about choosing a line of studies and earning a degree. The education fairs that come to town every year at this point of time should say something.
What is it that students and parents want after obtaining a degree ?
If it is all about earning a livelihood then education of any type will suffice.
However the reality says something else and that is it has become increasingly difficult for mediocres to find a place under the Sun.
Excellence, this is what the world wants. It is here that everyone concerned need to give extra thought to the question of choosing the course for further studies.
With nothing to suggest that things will improve in the near future, the best that one can do is choose further course of studies with care, choose the institutions with knowledge and learn as much as possible about all the more prominent universities and institutions.
