Popularly known as Moirang Memma, Shrimati Mairembam Memma Devi, born in 1959 at Moirang in Bishnupur District, is a noted artiste of Nata Sankirtana, the major traditional music of Manipur.
She was initiated into Nata Sankirtana music at a young age by her grandfather.
Having received her initial training from her grandfather, she got her further musical knowledge from several other distinguished Gurus such as S. Kalidamon Singh, Kh. Gulapi Singh, L. Lakpati Singh and Y. Gambhini Devi to become one of the most accomplished artistes of Nata Sankirtana.
During her illustrious career, Smt. Memma has toured the length and breadth of the state and has performed in foreign countries such as Canada, the U.S.A., Japan and Myanmar.
An approved artiste of AIR, Imphal, she is also trained in Raasleela and Gouraleela. The Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal has also bestowed her with a Gold Medal in recognition of her eminence in the field of music.
For her excellence in the field of music, Shrimati Mairembam Memma Devi is conferred with the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award.
