SHRI LUNGPUIGA REMEI Akademi Award: Tribal Culture
Born in 1932, Shri Lungpuiga Remei of Keishamthong Kabui Khul, Imphal, is a revered authority on Kabui traditional folk music. Right from an early age, he had developed a keen liking for traditional music of his community and received training in the art under various gurus including Phamjai, Kakhuphun and Houreilung Kabui.
A graduate from Gauhati University, Shri Remei is not only an accomplished artiste of Kabui folk music but also an ardent exponent of the same.
He has been closely associated with Kabui Naga Dance and Drama Centre, Imphal, an organisation of which he has been the secretary-cum-president.
He has also edited, compiled and published several booklets on Kabui folk music. As the village chieftain of Keishamthong Kabui Khul, he is still taking strong interest in passing on the tradition of folk music of the Kabuis to the younger generation of his community.
In recognition of his contribution in the field of tribal culture, Shri Lungpuiga Remei is honoured with Manipur State Kala Akademi Award.
