I always admire pictures of people neatly pasted on every single magazine and newspaper.
The perfect smile, the perfect curve, THE perfect everything and me… ???... ??? Lots of question marks.
I see myself in the mirror- pimples with some odd acnes covering my round face, presence of black-heads promptly on my nose, my teeth which would put Dracula to shame (damn sure!!), my oversize body which makes me so difficult to find a dress of my size in Imphal.
How I gape at all those slim girls in Imphal!!!
I sometimes get hurt when people joke around about my size, and later try and cover it by quoting it as a joke in turn compelling me to stay shut and bury my reactions. I confess, they really make me conscious.
I usually visit a doctor for regular health check up. My blood pressure, thyroid, blood-sugar,… everything is quite normal then why? Should I visit a dentist to give me that perfect denture smile?
With these thoughts, I was dusting my house this weekend and I bumped into a set of pictures I had clicked for my Imabok.
I see my favourite Yaiskul Imabok's picture- at all her elegance, her dusky skin shining out with the chandol on her nose and forehead , her wrinkled yet gentle hands on my head, blessing me in every step.
I remember her saying when I visited her for lunch before I left for Delhi, "Nakokpao chiktaba oiyuko Ibemma. Punsi langfam thengnaba ngamba sakti piyuko ichasida, hey Ishwar, magon oiro oiro." known for her kindness is my Imabok.
Her beautiful smile infecting me and I smiled in my present, "Damn!! you good looks, I should define goodness."
I picked up the broom and cleaned all the dirt and worries.
I survive with an imperfect body and Dracula-ful teeth, pouncing on my bean bag with a mouthful of singju over Maine Pyar Kiya on Zee Cinema.
