Love at Sunset
K. Radhakumar *
Tonight
The blue light is seen again.
It's not a figment of my imagination;
It's a reality.
What a stunning beauty!
I can't believe my eyes
When it shines in the heart of Lamphelpat
It teaches me to appreciate beauty
The incarnation of truth
And also of goodness;
I do seem very with it today
And I learn to appreciate beauty
The world and my life.
Many moons ago
A fair maiden and I parted company;
She went to a far corner of the world,
Her virgin feet
Taking her virgin heart.
For some three decades
We must have been living
Totally separate lives.
Oh, time flies!
Guess who I ran into one fine evening!
After a lapse of more than three decades
We met up again
Two souls from two corners of the world.
She formally greeted me,
'How are you?'
Sorry, I could not recognize
The dim shape
In the fading light of the evening.
Time caused a great devastation -
I was beginning to feel my age.
'Wine is the only thing that improves with age',
I pondered silently.
After exchanging the usual pleasantries
We parted.
What's the moral of the story?
For all I know
She's still living in a far corner of the world.
I take a trip down memory lane
And I will no longer say
I haven't had much of a love.
I am crystal clear
Who the love of my life is.
Love is not a star
That twinkles in the sky.
Love is intimacy
A selfless sacrifice
A commitment to feel compassion unto death.
