Looking back at some pressing issues : Indifferent Government
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: April 22 2015 -
Four pressing issues but nothing much to show that the Government is intent on addressing these issues with the importance they deserve.
To cut a long story short, the issues are obviously the ban imposed on Mission schools by some self righteous elements, the confirmation of Bird Flu outbreak in the State, the fuel scarcity and the noise of discontentment raised by VDF personnel.
No one is expecting the Government to wave the magic wand and miraculously resolve all the issues, but the least that can be done is for the Government to try and understand the issues which have been dogging the people for some time now.
The Bird Flu outbreak is unfortunate, but there is nothing much to say that the Government is intent on putting out its best effort to control the spread of the disease.
Bird culling is on, but so far there is nothing much to suggest that the Government has gone on the overdrive to educate the public about the disease.
Bird Flu is not new here, but this should be no reason for the Government or anyone to take it easy and live under the assumption that the people are educated or aware enough to tackle the issue.
What stopped the Government from going on a publicity blitzkrieg ? Why is it still acting like the days when Rabies stalked Churachandpur and parts of the State some time back ?
So far Avian Influenza has remained just that-Bird Flu-but this cannot be the reason to take the matter lightly. Publicity drive should be taken up and the services of the numerous local clubs may be roped in.
What is stopping the Government from doing this ? Swine Flu had claimed the lives of two persons earlier and this should have been enough lesson for the Government to mobilise all its resources now.
Not pressing the alarm button, but the Government should show that it is indeed serious and concerned about the health of the public.
A protracted period of time it took for the Government to wake up to the perils of Mission schools being banned.
Apart from suggesting that security cover may be given to these schools, there is nothing much to show that the Government is indeed serious about the matter.
Not the time to take things so casually. Why should the future of youngsters be trivialised ?
Well past the time for the Government get its act together and show that it will not brook any nonsense from some dim witted elements whose only claim to fame lies in issuing diktats and threats.
On the other hand, there is still no sign that the fuel supply conditions in the State will improve in the next few days.
Here too, the Government has come under the idea that silence is the better part of valour. A shame it is that the public have to be put to such inconveniences every year.
Time for the Government to act and rein in those who stand to financially gain by such a situation.
The Sangai Express has already had its say on the issues concerning the VDF personnel.
The interesting point however is the seeming indifference of the Government to the grievances of the VDF men.
A point which should have been looked into a long time back.
These are not happy times for Manipur and much of it has to do with the fact that the Government has never deemed it proper to resolve all cases in good time.
Makes absolutely no sense to sleep over such sensitive issues.
