Times of India | TNN | Nov 24, 2011, 01.38AM IST, Imphal/ Guwahati:
Marking its 47th foundation day, the banned United National Liberation Front (UNLF) on Wednesday described Manipur as "a captive market of India".
In a statement, the UNLF said the wheels of Manipur's economy "turn on the salaries of employees and earnings from supply and contract works". It added, "Only a successful struggle for regaining our lost independence can vouchsafe us an escape from the spectre of worsening social and economic malaise."
The UNLF is the oldest underground rebels of Manipur. It chief, Raj Kumar Meghen, who is now in Guwahati Central Jail, comes from Manipur's royal family.
