NERIST Manipur Students Union joined Candle-Ligth Vigil for Richard Loitam at Itanagar

To show solidarity and in quest for justice for Richard Loitam,a peaceful candle-lit vigilwas organized at Itanagar on 3rd May 2012,Thursday at 3:30 pm. Students from various schools and colleges across Itanagar and NERIST took part in the peaceful Candle-lit vigil.

The candle-lit march, which started at Indira Gandhi Park, culminated at Catholic Church of Don Bosco Youth Centre, Itanagar. The rally was organized by the alumni and classmates of Richard Loitam at the Assam Valley School, Tezpur and hailing from Arunachal Pradesh. Zirngam Kadu, Dani Nagyang,Onia Subu, who are former schoolmates of Richard Loitam, led the vigil and appealed all to stand united. “We hope that same incident would not recur again in future to any of the students from Northeast”, said Zirngam Kadu.

NERIST Manipur Students’ Union(NEMSU) also joined the candle-lit vigil. More than 100 students from Manipur studying in NERIST and students from other states took part in the march. NEMSU thanked the former schoolmates of Richard Loitam for taking the initiative in organizing the peace marchat Itanagar. “You make us feel at home,even if we are away from home”, averred the NEMSU members.
Apart from parents, well-wishers and commonpeople, the candle-lit vigil was also represented by the President of the Galo Welfare Society, Mrs. Jarjum Ete and other leaders from community based organizations of the state.
