Born in 1958 at Kha Sanjenbam Awang Leikai, Shri Laishram Leibakmacha Singh is a noted Pena singer who is known for his distinctive style and rhythm.
He was trained in Pena music by renowned gurus of the art such as Ch. Mera Singh, Ibomcha Singh and Ch. Leirenjao Singh.
He has intricately blended the finest elements of his distinguished gurus and developed in his own unique style of presentation.
An approved artiste of AIR, Imphal, Shri Leibakmacha has rendered Yeoman's Service in popularising this dying art form of Manipur. He has performed on different levels of platforms.
Glimpses of his skills in playing the Pena instrument and talent as a Pena singer are aptly manifested in his renderings at Festivals of Narrative Arts organised by Theatre Centre, Manipur and Pena Utsav organised by NEZCC, Dimapur. At the same time, he never failed to play his due role in the Devine Festival, the Lai Haraoba.
For his eminence as a Pena artiste, Shri Laishram Leibakmacha Singh is honoured with the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award.
