Keeping up with time
Depiya Thoudam *
Through the lights of festive days
Winter has crept in silently
It seems like it was just yesterday
Where candles were lit for Diwali
But we can almost hear the Christmas bell
Dark night changes to bright daytime
Hot summer changes to cold winter
At an astonishing pace, time flies
Don't know what have we ticked off
From that long list of resolutions
Made with zeal in the start of the year
And for sure the next year's list is longer
Definitely with a promise to stick to it
But we can't promise this promise
No matter where we're or whom we're with
We keep pace with the flow of time
As the only rule is keeping up with time
In its flow we would be bestowed
With changes only, whether we like or not
Strangers to friends, friends to enemies
Sometimes even snatching away untimely
Our dearest and nearest ones from us
Without goodbyes and kisses we separated
With no one to blame, silently we would cry
Weighted with memories, we would sigh
But we never stop sailing our boats of life
Even through tossing waves and storms
As the only rule is keeping up with time
So dance at its tunes, bend at its curves
We can wait for rime but it waits for none
Like water borrowing the shapes
Of the containers it occupies
Do whatever it takes to make sure
We keep pace with the flow of time
As the only rule is keeping up with time.
