Jiribam no to cut-off year
The Telegraph | Imphal, Aug. 24:
Non-Manipuris settled in Manipur's Jiribam have opposed fixing 1951 as the base year for detection of outsiders and their deportation, a demand raised by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit (ILP) System, a citizens' conglomerate spearheading the campaign for ILP or a similar legislation.
The All Jiribam Minority Peoples Welfare Organisation yesterday discussed the prevailing situation in the state arising out of the campaign for ILP and a similar legislation in a meeting held at Lalpani Bazar of Jiribam, which is near Cachar district of Assam. Jiribam, 222km from Imphal, has a large population of non-Manipuris. Leaders of All Jiribam Muslim Welfare Society, Jiribam Bengali Students Union and Muslim and Bengali communities also attended the meet.
