The Just Peace Foundation (JPF) is happy to announce that following an invitation from Team Anna to join the anti-corruption campaign in New Delhi Sharmila has written to Anna Hazare inviting him to visit Manipur which is arguably the world’s most corruption affected state.
JPF acknowledge the similarity of the non-violent means deployed in the campaigns for a corruption free India and the campaign to restore the right to life in Manipur. JPF also acknowledge that both the struggle seeks to establish accountability of all the persons exercising public authority and state power, whether it be the Prime Minister’s office or members of the armed forces deployed in ‘disturbed areas’
JPF will be grateful if Anna and his team also reciprocate the solidarity by making a statement supporting the demand to repeal the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958.
In the interim, JPF would designate a representative in Delhi to show solidarity to Anna’s struggle for transparent and accountable governance.
