Irom Sharmila Chanu released from jail, continues fast
Times of India | TNN | Mar 12, 2012, 10.43PM IST
A local court on Monday freed anti-military act crusader Irom Sharmila Chanu as her one year jail term ended on Sunday.
Minutes after her release, Irom (39) continued her fast against the act. Interestingly, Sharmila demanded a change of leadership in the state even as the new government is to be installed within the next few days.
"Okram Ibobi Singh has been incumbent as a chief minister as he has failed to comply with my 11 year struggle," Sharmila said minutes after she was taken out by the cops of the court of judicial magistrate first class in Imphal East around 1.30 pm. "I want a leader who will take into account my eleven years of struggle against the oppressive act," she added.
