Preamble
Nanotechnology has become one of the most highly charged disciplines in science and technology today. The intense interest in nanotechnology is being driven by visions of a stream of new industrial applications leading to a new industrial revolution. Nanotechnology embraces many branches of science and technology, from space exploration, to energy conservation. This highly multi-disciplinary field depends upon shared knowledge, tools, techniques and information from many different areas of research and requires input from materials scientists, engineers, physicists, chemists, biologists and clinical researchers.
The comparable size scale of nanoparticles and biological materials, such as antibodies and proteins, facilitates the use of these particles for biological and medical applications. The ability to create nanostructures with entirely new properties will improve diagnostics and provide analytical tools in diverse applications as drug design and delivery, tissue engineering and disease diagnosis. Researchers predict that nanotechnology will significantly improve treatment of a variety of diseases in the next five to 10 years and will provide new tools for medicine, making possible molecular-scale surgery to repair and rearrange cells.
Today, tiny polymeric drug carriers (nano spheres)with diameters ranging from 50 billionth of a metre facilitate the transport of drugs to some of the smallest capillaries in the body and cure afflictions that were once thought incurable.Smart nano materials image and diagnose diseases that lie hidden from conventional scanning techniques and repair organs without the need for surgery.
Objectives:
The International workshop on “ Nanotechnology & Health Care” arranged at SASTRA University will focus on the synergy developing between nanotechnology and health care. This workshop has been arranged at a time when the need for engineering technologies to combat, diagnose and cure diseases is increasing in developed and developing countries .
This event will bring together Nobel Laureates, eminent scientists, researchers, medical professionals and industry professionals from around the globe to demonstrate how the fusion of skills across disciplines of nanotechnology has influenced medical sciences and society as a whole. The workshop will serve to demonstrate the intrinsic ability of nanotechnology to drive new paradigm shifts in healthcare and will address the advantages of miniaturisation for early diagnosis and patient care. The event will showcase the multi-disciplinary collaborations, that have resulted in ground-breaking projects in nanotechnology.
The workshop will address the applications of nano technology in frontier areas of research in health care and diagnosis such as drug delivery, tissue engineering, smart nano materials ,therapeutic nano technology and the related areas besides reviewing its development on a global perspective and its possible future.
Internationally renowned Professors, researchers and pioneers in the field from across the world will be addressing the different sessions of the workshop .
