International Seminar on Globalisation to Glocalisation
October 4th -6th, 2013
Call for Papers
If globalisation is a process in which the West and the United States of America occupy the ‘centre stage’, glocalisation is a series of activities in which the ‘margins’ are on move towards the ‘centre’. Ultimately, glocalisation is a development upon globalisation. For the last two decades glocalisation, considered to be the benchmark by the theorists and thinkers, focuses the growth and development of the developing countries. Glocalisation has gained significance with the economic down-turn in West and the United States of America. In other words, glocalisation is a postmodern and postcolonial phenomena which defies hegemonic articulation covertly and overtly. Now that India is an emerging economy along with China and Brazil etc., it has a larger role than before to play in international politics. In areas such as international terrorism, environmental issues, gender, health, human rights and several other issues, India’s strategic position cannot be undermined.
Although India has miles to go in its achievement of democratic practice, its maturity in the said field cannot be ignored, considering its heterogeneous population posing a threat to democratic ramification. India’s world class human resource in terms of medical science, engineering and information technology, which is in great demand in West, is an instance of glocalisation contributing largely, by way of outsourcing, to globalization. If globalisation is a monopolisation of Western neo-imperialism, glocalisation is a turning point of the same with ideological rupture in it. Glocalisation, otherwise, is a reincarnation of globalisation with opportunities for ‘margins’ to participate in the latter. Subthemes for the seminar are noted below.
