Insensitive NHRC : RTI reply reveals the fact

New Delhi, 19 December 2011:
Save Sharmila Campaign at Rajghat, New Delhi on June 25 2011
Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign filed a RTI in NHRC (National Human Rights Commission) which is attached in pdf format with mail. I asked several questions about Irom Sharmila/ AFSPA with NHRC.
We recieved first reply of NHRC vide its letter no. 16(1)PIO/2005/RTI/5378 dated 15.10.2011 which was the part reply, while the next reply was recieved vide same letter no. dated on 04/11/2011.
By these replies (attached in pdf format), we became shocked to see the following facts :
That, NHRC itself took suo moto on the issue of Irom Sharmila but closed this case after submission of some report by Additional Secretary (Home), Manipur.
That, NHRC has not investigated cases of human rights violation in the AFSPA cases, rather than only two investigations made by NHRC, which were related to Loktak lake and health related issue.
That, inspite of 11 years of non violent protest and demands from various national/ international agencies/ rights activists and even after its well known status to almost all human rights agencies, it is only our NHRC, which is not serious about the matter.
According to second reply of NHRC, it clearly tells in its last line that, '' There is no information available about any member's visit to Manipur''
Very soon a delegation from Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign will meet with NHRC Chairman to express its views and to present them a memorandum regarding fast of Irom Sharmila.
