India cuts aid to Myanmar
Assam Tribune | New Delhi, Feb 27
The ambitious Act East Policy is likely to take a hit with India drastically slashing aid to Myanmar from Rs 400 crore to Rs 120 crore.New Delhi has cited non-awarding of works related to the road component of the Kaladan project, Trilateral Highway Project and the Kalewa-Yargi Road for reduction of the funds to Myanmar.
Sources said the tendering process could not be completed due to various reasons, including high bids from the estimated cost of work. The Ministry of External Affairs was requested that it should strictly ensure that works were awarded in the first half of 2017-18, and a strict timeline was followed for completion of the projects.
