The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) express its deep condolence on the death of K. Lyton, K. Rawung & K. Pamleiyo of Sihai village who were killed on 30th June 2012 at Phangrei, Ukhrul District.
NPMHR understands that there is a longstanding land dispute between Sihai and Lunghar villages. However, what appears to be premeditated violence and brutality that resulted in the killing of the three young men and gravely injuring another is totally and absolutely uncalled for and NPMHR condemns the same.
NPMHR urges people from both villages to exhibit restrain and refrain from further violence. We also appeal to the leaders and elders from both villages to exercise their collective wisdom in resolving the dispute and to prevail upon their respective villagers to abstain from violent means and acts.
NPMHR further ask Tangkhul civil societies and other organisations to help and assist both villages in finding peaceful means to settle the dispute which has the grave potential to flare up again.
The incident has profoundly shocked and outraged the sentiments of people; NPMHR envisions a future generation who do not have to inherit such history of hate and conflict and prays that wisdom will prevail upon both villages.
