In Memory of the Dead
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
Today I would say
An unfathomable mystery
Played across your visage, Daddy
For you did not die
Though you died
Not so long ago.
The world put temptations
In your way
By offering possessions and pleasure
And you willed your unwilling legs
To go straight on a slippery path.
Your will to live
And your courage
At meeting your end!
(That was complete surrender with grace)
Ah, I know
You have attained immortality.
You died some time ago
But you live on;
Life in a different attire continues;
It is not that you stood out
In my memory.
When you died
You had attained the endlessness of life,
Death was life's pet name for you.
We seem to be looking at each other
At this pregnant moment of our Father Time
As we used to
Before you died
Like two old friends meeting,
Long separated by different walks of life
But by a quirk of fate
Boarded the same flight
Sitting side by side for two hours,
In the realms of reality
Beyond the true and the false
Beyond the good and the bad
And beyond the beautiful and the ugly.
