Images of the Countryside
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
In the afternoon
We're going walking, my pet dog and I
On the dusty country road by the hill.
The creature's name is Boxer
But everyone calls it Bo.
Bo cocks its leg against the lamp post
And barks at night
In chorus with other country dogs.
It is almost mad
Displaying strange behaviour
During the mating season
Just after the rainy season
But before the onset of autumn.
A cock crows
Seeing a hen and her brood of chicks
Scratching about in the poultry yard.
There is no threat to his masculinity
But puts on a show
By dropping his wings towards the staggering feet;
When bits of junk are found in the soil
He crows kut-kut-kut
And calls his harem to have their fill first.
Soon he copulates with one in the harem
And goes about aristocratically
Showing his dark green and gold plumage
And shaking his blood-red comb.
Oh, one could admire his sharp spurs
And see how these curve frighteningly.
This is nothing but naked desire at dusk
Of country animals not clad in fineries.
The humanoid is an absolute monster!
A monster with one head and two red eyes
Yes, the humanoid's anatomy is not different
From the normal human anatomy.
Still, he is a monster.
He destroys, or tries to destroy civilisation
And when he does, it is not humanely done.
He kills man, and it appears
He won't let it trouble his conscience;
He does what he does
So that his tribe and ideas live.
Like the sunflower stretching tall to the sun
I was proud to be born a human being
For humans are the only animals
That have developed speech.
Shakespeare is dead; he died years ago.
Word!
I am a barefaced liar,
I use bad language
And call people names.
