IT seizes Rs 13 cr in NE post demonetisation

The Income Tax Department has seized old and new currency notes amounting to over Rs 13 crore in the northeastern region following the demonetisation of the old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, while thousands of bank accounts, which recorded unusual transactions, are under the scanner of the department. Meanwhile, the department has also sought the cooperation of the police departments of all the states of the region in unearthing black money.
Sources in the Income Tax (IT) Department told The Assam Tribune that a good number of fake accounts have also been unearthed following the demonetisation, while the officers of the investigation wing of the department are working round the clock to detect black money.
