Officials at the IOA and YAS still unaware of the boxer Sarita and the controversy
Delhi, October 7, 2014:
Office of the
Manipur Students’ Association Delhi
Ref. No. 20141007
As the follow-up of the demonstration and online submission of memorandums on 3rd October 2014, against the injustice done to the boxers Laishram Sarita and Laishram Devendro, by the judges during boxing bouts at the 17th Asian Games recently held in South Korea, Manipur Students’ Association Delhi today submitted hard copies of the joint memorandums to the President, Indian Olympic Association and the Minister of state for the Youth Affairs and Sports.
The memorandums Endorsed by fifteen organisations, urged upon the Indian Olympic Association:
(1) To tender an apology to the Indian contingents in general and Sarita in particular for having failed to assist her in the time of need;
(2) To immediately institute an official inquiry to investigate the matter and to take up disciplinary action against those guilty Indian officials;
(3) To take up immediate appropriate initiatives to defend Sarita from any disciplinary action by AIBA or OCA or any other organisations; and
(4) To take up immediate appropriate initiatives to internationally expose the injustice that was done to the Indian boxers at Incheon and to take up disciplinary action against those guilty officials.
The officials at IOA and YAS offices, whom MSAD interacted, who are expected to be aware of the sports world and the burning issues related to the Indian Sports, said that they were unaware of the controversial boxing events and the issues centred on it. It seems, justice will not come unless the people continue to fight for it.
