It is my pleasure to bring to your notice the announcement for admission to Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore for the academic session 2007-2008. An excerpt is brought to you for brief information.
Information at a Glance
- Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is pleased to announce Admissions to the following programs:
Research program - Master's (M Sc [Engg]) and Doctoral (Ph D) in 27 departments/centres/units. Under research program a candidate can choose one of the following three options, i.e.
option (i) only to M Sc (Engg),
option (ii) only to Ph D and
option (iii) both M Sc (Engg) and Ph D.
NEW: Admission to Ph D in Engineering Faculty is open to Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/Technology.
Course program - (ME/M Tech/M Des) in 18 disciplines:
Integrated Ph D program in 4 disciplines (Biological, Chemical, Physical & Mathematical Sciences):
Candidates should carefully go through the minimum requirements and satisfy themselves that they fulfill all the eligibility conditions for admission to the program for which they seek admission.
- Candidates who wish to apply for both research and course programs should send separate sets of Basic Data Sheet and an application form for each program.
- For each of the three programs (Research, Course and Integrated PhD) only one application per program will be entertained. Duplicate applications for the same program will be automatically rejected.
- Candidates applying for a research program can indicate preferences for upto 3 departments/centres/units.
Candidates applying for course programs can indicate preferences for upto 5 disciplines.
Candidates applying for Integrated Ph D program can indicate preferences for upto 4 disciplines.
- The application form consists of two parts: basic data sheet (BDS) and application form. Candidates should complete the BDS and Application form carefully complying with all the instructions.

Applications with incomplete/incorrect information will be rejected.

The completed form should reach the Institute on or before March 20, 2006. Last date prescribed for receipt of applications cannot be extended for any reason.

Candidates are requested to check this site periodically for the status of their application.
- The admit Card for IISc Entrance Test 2006 will be sent to eligible candidates at least 2 weeks ahead of the Entrance Test. However, if you do not receive the card within a reasonable time, you are required to ascertain if you are enlisted for the Entrance Test or not either from our Website or by contacting the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, IISc. If it is confirmed that the Admit Card has been posted to you, you may go to the concerned centre for Entrance Test and contact the Presiding Officer of the center on the day of the Test at least half an hour before commencement of the Test with proof of identity, proof of having applied to the Institute and with your two recent passport-size photographs. The Institute is not responsible for postal delays, non-receipt of Admit Card etc.
- Interview letters will be sent to short-listed candidates about 2 weeks ahead of the date of interview. If the letter is not received within a reasonable time, you may ascertain if you are called for interview or not either from our Website or by contacting the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, IISc. If call for interview is confirmed, you may proceed to the Institute to attend the interview(s) on the indicated date(s) with all the relevant documents.
- In all correspondence regarding admissions, the application number printed on BDS should be quoted.
- Receipt of Admit Card for Entrance Test 2006 or call letter for interview does not confer any right upon the applicant for admission to the Institute. Admission is subject to your fulfilling all the Institute requirements for the concerned program: (i) selection through the final merit
