IGAR (S) celebrates the bond with ningols

IGAR (S) celebrates Ningol Chakkouba on 14 Nov 2016 at Mantripukhri

IGAR (South) organized “Ningol Chakkouba” on 14 Nov 2016, in keeping with the Manipuri traditions and true to its credo “Friends of Manipur”. The event was organised as a “heartfelt gesture of love, affection and esteem" in order to pay befitting tribute to women of the State, whose outstanding qualities are renowned the world over.

Womenfolk from various walks of life and communities of the State were invited at Mantripukhri camp of Assam Rifles and hosted by Maj Gen Virendra Singh, VSM, IGAR (South) and other officers.

A traditional welcome was extended to the Ningols from various sections of society who have brought laurels not only to this beautiful State, but have proved their mettle in national as well as international arena by their outstanding contributions in almost all fields. The womenfolk offered ‘Athenpot’ to the rank and file of IGAR (S).

Maj Gen Virendra Singh, VSM, in his message, appreciated the invaluable contribution of the Manipuri womenfolk in all walks of life and added that it was an honour for him to host the Ningols on behalf of the Assam Rifles fraternity. He appealed to the womenfolk to continue their inimitable role of maintaining peace, development and harmony in the society.

The General officer emphasized that the state is undergoing a positive transformation and the women can make immense difference in continuing the progress in the state.

He also conveyed that the Assam Rifles is committed to stand by the Manipur Society in all times. On behalf of the participants, women speakers expressed gratitude towards the gesture of the Assam Rifles to strengthen the brother-sister bond and emphasized that the cordial relationship between the security forces and the society will always play a positive role in ensuring sustainable peace & prosperity in the state.

The event was conducted as per Manipuri traditions.There were various cultural programs organised followed by felicitation of Ningols.

The event culminated with a sumptuous traditional feast with everyone eating the traditional Manipuri meal on plantain leaves and the Assam Rifles Officers & Men attired in ‘Pheijoms’ serving the Ningols. The event further cemented the bonding between the Assam Rifles and civil society.
