House of Promises
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
At one time
I felt a strong attraction for a girl.
It was in my late teens
And I could not contain
The feeling of deep affection;
It burst like the sun through the clouds
And found expression in gestures
Translated as love.
She did not encourage it
And paired off with a man
After her own heart.
This is my love story
And is as simple as that.
But this is a wonderful story
For I knew she could read
My innermost thoughts
Though she gave it a cold welcome.
Love was to love and be loved;
Love was loving.
The flame of passion
Of romantic love died a death
And I am not sorry about it.
I am glad
I am blessed with life
And can appreciate the beauty
Of an afternoon in late autumn.
I am in full possession of my faculties
And with these blessings of autumn,
The world is my oyster.
Mother!
I am a father of four children now.
It is a great thing
I have been brought up
Singing me to sleep
Breast fed
Childish pranks understood.
Now is the moment
To acknowledge
How much I am loved.
