Following an understanding reached with the government of Manipur during a meeting today at the chief minister’s office, the Joint Tribal Student Bodies, Manipur has relaxed the indefinite blockade on national highways in hill areas of Manipur with immediate effect until the next round of meeting scheduled to be held within two days.
At the invitation from the Chief Minister, Shri N. Biren Singh for a talk, representatives of the Joint Tribal Student Bodies, Manipur – a federating body of Thadou Students’ Association (TSA), Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization (RNSO), Liangmai Naga Katimai Luangdi (LNKR) and the representative of Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF) held a meeting with the Chief Minister in the presence of Shri Y. Khemchand, Hon'ble Speaker, Shri Th Radheshyam, Hon'ble Education Minister, Shri V. Hangkhanlian, Hon'ble Agriculture Minister and Shri P. Sharatchandra, Hon’ble MLA & Advisor to Chief Minster and Chief Secretary Shri Suresh Babu, IAS.
The meeting was positive as the Chief Minister assured to fulfil our demands and invited us for another round of meeting within the next two days to chalk out the details of the agreement (the outcome of this meeting will decide the next course of step/action).
Our points of demand that were discussed in today’s meeting include issues pertaining to the on-going impasse in Manipur University, July 13 Moreh terror attack and the incidents of intimidation and assault of peaceful protesters and student leaders during the JTSBM’s bandh on July 6.
We would like to thank all the volunteers, especially womenfolk’s and general public for their support during the bandh and blockade.
