Haipou Jadonang – A Martyr
Ngamchung Xavier Longmei *
Oh, Stand up, Stanf up for Jadonang,
March on with trumpets and cymbals he shown,
Liberate people from the chain of bondage
Let motherland shine again in freedom.
He fought for freedom and independence,
Proclaimed Nagaraj and praised Mahatma Gandhi,
To live in honour and dignity is worth
Than to live years in disgrace and bondage.
Oh! You a mistaken identity,
Call him mystic, reformer, murderer or martyr!
Imprisoned him for causing his people unrest,
Fought with messianic power that shook the British Sovereign.
Nagaraj movement caused many sleepless nights
To the imperial rulers, R Reid, J.C. Higgins, J.P. Mills,
Conspired together and charged him a murderer,
So created bad relation between Hills and Valley.
Oh! Nambul River of 29th Aug, 1931,
You watch your beloved brother died by rope,
Follow not his indomitable spirit and
Create not a place under the Sun?
Arise! Why He to die as a murderer?
Adoring memorials and observances are but not justice,
Undo wrongful conviction Imphal High Court,
Recognised India your brace son with Bharat Ratna.
