HQ IGAR (South) added yet another milestone to its glorious and splendid history as it celebrated its 13th Raising Day on 15 March 2016. HQ IGAR (South) was raised in the year 2004 at the historic Kangla Fort and moved subsequently to its present location at Mantripukhri. Driven by the urge to usher in the well being of Manipur and its people, the efforts of the last thirteen years are today visible on the peaceful streets of Imphal and other districts of Manipur.
The grand day commenced with the Inspector General Major General VS Sreenivas, VSM** paying homage to the martyrs of the formation at the Martyrs Memorial in the Garrison. Major General VS Sreenivas, VSM**, Inspector General, Assam Rifles (South) conveyed his greetings and best wishes to all ranks of HQ IGAR (South) and applauded their efforts towards creating a conducive and secure environment in the state. He exhorted the force to strive for the well being and safety of the people of Manipur at all times.

The festivities included a social evening organised at Officers Mess which was graced by a number of civil and military dignitaries. To mark this momentous day, a large number of programmes such as Meena Bazaar and Pagal Gymkhana were organised for the troops. A Barakhana was also organised with invitations extended to personnel from all the Assam Rifles Sectors and Units serving under the IGAR (South)
Amid festivities marking the occasion, it is also appropriate to place on record the role of IGAR (South) - the largest counter insurgency force in the country. Fondly called “Friends of Manipuri People”, the force has contributed not only to the security and peace in the state, but also has aided developmental activities especially in the border areas. Be it sports, cultural events, youth empowerment or health of people, IGAR (South) has been at the fore front of all the progressive activities. Several construction projects which have been undertaken by IGAR (South) on behest of the local population are a testimony to this fact. Its dedication and enthusiasm to serve the people of the state selflessly is the reason why Assam Rifles is always looked up to by the people of the state during times of need.
