Govt urged to explore political solutions to NE problem

Renowned political scientist Prof G Haragopal of the University of Hyderabad today said that it is time for the Indian Government to examine and explore political solutions and not armed solutions to the problems of NE India.
Stating that when the AFSPA was introduced for Assam and Manipur, the Government told the Parliament that there was an extra-ordinary situation in Nagaland and Manipur and the Act was a very temporary measure to tackle the problem. The very name of the Act suggests that it is a special power Act and it does not conform to the criminal justice system of the country.
