Getting primed for November 30 : A date with the Prime Minister
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: November 15, 2014 -
Any Government worth its salt should be ready for this.
First visit of the Prime Minister to the North East region, the two day conference of DGPs and IGPs held for the first time outside Delhi at Guwahati on November 29 and 30 and the Prime Minister gearing up to meet the Chief Ministers of all the North East States at Guwahati on November 30.
Probably the first time that the Prime Minister of the country has set a date with all the Chief Ministers of the region on a single day, though it is still not very clear whether he will meet all the Chief Ministers together or separately.
An important meeting it certainly is and it would do good for the State Government to come to terms with the fact that it is not going to be just another courtesy call.
A report coming from Delhi says that the Prime Minister is expected to review the ongoing development projects in sectors like roads, rural and border development, health and telecom besides reviewing the ongoing political dialogue with groups like the NSCN and ULFA.
November 30 is certainly going to be a full day for all the Chief Ministers and it is only right that the State Government primes itself well before the meeting with the Prime Minister.
The finer aspects still remains to be seen, especially given the fact that November 30 will be the last day of the Sangai Festival.
Important to keep in mind that a meeting with the Prime Minister will prove more positive than attending the closing day of the Sangai Festival.
A suggestion which would do the State Government good to keep in mind.
Not only good for the Government but also good for the people and the land. Not very clear what the Chief Minister intends to say during the meeting with the Prime Minister, but Mr Ibobi will certainly need to do something very different from the manner in which the invitation to grace the Sangai Festival was sent to the Prime Minister.
Apart from the issues which the Prime Minister is likely to put up for discussion it would be important for the State Government to acknowledge the point that Narendra Modi has just visited Myanmar and addressed the ASEAN meet there.
It is also equally important to keep in mind that the present Prime Minister has moved from Look East to Act East.
A good opportunity to present a strong case for the people and the State that in any Act East policy to be pursued by the country, Manipur cannot be left out in the cold. A strong case needs to be underlined that in any attempt to open the eastern door, Manipur and her people are central to such a policy.
For this one needs vision. Right time for the Chief Minister to make a strong case for Manipur and November 30 may just be the date.
