Game
K. Radhakumar *
A hawk hovers,
Motionless,
In the sky.
Leisure activity!
A gentleman of leisure!
Below
On the surface of the earth
A rabbit stands on its hind legs.
The tiny animal
With soft fur and a short tail
But with long, long ears
On the sentry duty!
The hawk sees
The picture of the starving world
And swoops down over the running feast.
First it is a black thing coming down,
Then, it is a large bird
With a hooked bill,
Fearsome claws
And sharp eyes.
The rabbit runs for its dear life;
It takes sharp turns
To misdirect the onrush of death.
Taking sharp turns is a Herculean task
To the tiny animal.
A great cheer
For its effort, strength and determination
Though it makes no difference.
Animals live in appalling conditions
And man also is an animal
