Admission to Postgraduate Courses with MHRD Scholarship/Assistant-ship in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy and Sciences at Colleges/Institutes in
the country is open to those who qualify in GATE. GATE 2005 will be conducted on Sunday, February 13, 2005.
Eligibility: The following categories of candidates
are eligible to appear for GATE 2005.
(a) Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/Techno-logy/Architecture/Pharmacy and those who are in the final or pre-final
year of such programmes;
(b) Master’s degree holders in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in
the final or pre-final year of such programmes;
(c) Candidates in the second or higher year of the Post B.Sc. Four-Year Integrated Master’s degree programme
in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of the Five-Year Integrated Master’s degree/ Dual degree programme in Engineering/Technology;
(d) Candidates with qualifications obtained through examination conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE as equivalent to B.E/B.Tech.
Those who have completed Section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.
Application Process and Fees: There are two different processes by which a candidate can apply/register for GATE 2005, namely, “online” and “offline“.
For general category candidates, the application fee is Rs. 850 for the online process and Rs. 1000 for the offline process.
For SC/ST candidates the fee is Rs. 350 for online and Rs. 500 for offline. The registration fee is not refundable.
The online process requires the candidate to fill a Web based application on the internet.
Online submission of application and online fee payment can be made by accessing the GATE 2005 website (
http://www.gate.iitb.ac.in).
The offline process involves procuring the Application Form and Information Brochure from designated bank branches,
as given below, by paying the appropriate fee in cash.
The form and brochure can also be requested by Post or obtained in person from GATE Offices at any of the seven IITs or IISc,
on payment of application fee as above by Demand Draft drawn in favour of the IIT/IISc to which the request is being made.
Two self-addressed slips must be enclosed along with the request to the Chairman-GATE of the concerned Institute.
Completed application forms, along with the original pay-in-slip (issued by the bank/GATE Office) and other enclosures as applicable, should be
submitted to the Chairman GATE of the zone where the candidate intends to register for the examination.
