Yaoshang Rock Show (Season -3) at THAU Ground on 26 April 2014 :: Pix - Deepak Oinam
"We Don't need no education, we don't need no self control" ... to call Another brick in the wall an anthem would be just about touching upon the revolution it brought in the world of music. Other songs …Childhood's end, Wish you were here, Shine on you crazy diamond, Breathe, Time, Brain Damage, Mother, Hey you, Comfortably Numb, the Gunners dream etc and etc…Do these songs sound familiar?
No one can make mistake in guessing who the implacably talented group is, PINK FLOYD…Yes, one of the most original and talented band ever and also one of the greatest band with biggest selling acts ever on the planet. Their music commented on human psychedelic, social injustices of modern society and the atrocities of war in a way that no other band has done before or since.
It all began during mid 1960s when Syd Barrett, Bob Close, Rick Wright, Nick Mason, and Roger Waters formed a band called Sigma 6.
Bob left the band, missing the chance of a lifetime and remaining members named the group with many names at different times such as, The Screaming Abdabs, T-Set, The Megadeths, and The Architectural Abdabs, until Syd Barrett came up with the name Pink Floyd, inspired by his favorite jazz artists Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
The group used the name The Pink Floyd for their first album "Piper at the Gates of Dawn".
Later the word, "The" was dropped in their next album A Saucerful of Secrets. Before the release of their first album the band had released several singles such as Arnold Lane, and See Emily Play.
During their promotion tour of their second album, Syd was heavily involved into LSD, which was legal at the time, and was having trouble dealing with all the pressure of being a star. So they hired David Gilmour, Syd's old friend to play rhythm guitar.
Syd's condition got worse and the band decided not to pick him up and that was the end of Syd, the man who gave the famous name. The new foursome later hit the stardom with unforgettable albums such as Wish you were here, Animal, Dark side of the moon, the Wall and Final cut.
This is just a brief about Pink Floyd led by Roger Waters, a creative genius and the pioneer of psychedelic music.
Come April 26, and Imphal will be witness to Floyd's musical magnificence through India's one and only Pink Floyd tribute band THINK FLOYD.
Those who are making the journey of their lives, leave today, and are already at a loss for words. From ecstatic, eager and excited to awe, daze and anticipation – the feeling vary with Imphal's Floyd fans.
THINK FLOYD - India's biggest and only Pink Floyd tribute band was came into existence in 2006 as a collaborative production, featuring select music, surround sound, extravagant lights and visual imagery set to contemporary social themes.
Reputed 'Floydians' from bands such as PARIKRAMA, THEM CLONES, ADVAITA, ARTISTES UNLIMITED etc. have entranced many since then, in their earnest attempt to recreate and relive the very relevant, paranormal magic of psychedelia.
Imphal's THAU Ground will be sight to behold on Saturday when Think Floyd takes stage and just like any other mega concerts held, this one has also attracted a fair number of Imphalites.
Current members of the group are Abhishek Mathur (guitar & vocals), Anindo Bose (Keyboards), Aveleon Vaz (Drums), Chayan Adhikari (guitar & vocals), Chintan Kalra (bass & vocals, and also Director of the group), Rohit kulkarni (guitar & vocals) and Abhay Sharma (Saxophone).
Organized by Nokia as 3rd season of their Yaoshang Rock, the concert will also feature talented performers such as TARZAN & THE PERVERTS, SAMMI and Grief Card, a Bangalore based alternative rock band originally from North-East India.
Every Individual has been looking forward to this rock event for months. While most would have preferred to see the original Pink Floyd perform, they are attending this concert because it is the next best thing.
So be ready to hum tonight in the superb lyrical theme
"long you live and high you fly,
and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry,
and all you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be."
