Mature beyond his age : Fresh approach of Sangma
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: April 01 2019 -
Comparatively very young, but displaying maturity of thoughts and approach much better than the ‘charming’ leaders from the Big Two, the BJP and the Congress and in him the National People’s Party has just
the man that the North East perhaps needs at this moment.
If he was the man central to the strong opposition put up by the North East region when the BJP led Government at New Delhi seemed set to go ahead with the Citizenship Amendment Bill, then today he has emerged as a leader who doesn’t believe in punching below the belt to deliver a point or two.
Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya and National president of the NPP, saw no need to go ballistic against any political party at the first political rally of the NPP candidate Thangminlen Kipgen at Churachandpur town on March 29.
Instead the young Chief Minister from Meghalaya was able to deliver what he wanted to do by dissecting the subject with clever use of the words.
To understand his clever use of words is not rocket science technology.
From Look East to Act East, this is how the country has progressed from the days of the UPA Government at New Delhi to the NDA Government.
In acknowledging the focus of the Government of India, Conrad Sangma placed the people of the North East in the middle of the Act East Policy and this he did by raising some very pertinent question.
Who is going to Look for us, who is going to Act for us, was the poser he raised at the election rally at Churachandpur and in raising this question, Conrad Sangma has managed to put the
people of the North East region in the middle of it all.
If somebody has to Look, if somebody has to Act, then we have to do it, you have to do it, was his take on the poser that he raised himself and in one address, the young Chief Minister from Meghalaya
has managed to make the people of the region central to the Act East Policy and this is a point which has not been spelt out succinctly by any of the other political leaders so far.
Cannot say if his soul stirring speech at the Churachandpur rally will sway the voters or not, but the point he laid down has been noted.
It was not against any political party, but a point which is central to the North East region has been raised and this is what came like a breath of fresh air amid the mud slinging between the Congress and the BJP.
Looking at the way in which the Big Two have been gunning each other, one can expect their verbal duel to get more intense in the coming days, but hope that the dust kicked up by the verbal duel does not make the people blind to the issues which count.
There is a lesson which the other political leaders and political parties can and should learn from the approach adopted by Conrad Sangma for this would be for the better of the people and the region.
Let the debates be productive in the sense that it makes the people think and exercise their mental faculty before making up their mind on who to vote for .
