Fish promise for Ningol Chakouba festival
The Telegraph | Imphal, Oct. 14:
The Manipur fisheries department is confident that it can make enough fish available in the market for the Ningol Chakouba festival, one of the largest festivals in the state, despite the economic blockade.
“We plan to produce at least 60,000kg of fish in the fish fair for Ningol Chakouba. We do not have to worry about shortage of fish during the festival,” director of the state fishery department K. Sarat Kumar said.
He said though the blockade was preventing import of fish from other states like Hyderabad and Bengal, the state’s own fish production was enough for the festival day.
Loktak, spreading across three valley districts of Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal, is the main source of fish in Manipur.
