First in Manipur and second in NE Don Bosco College, Maram
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: September 19 2015 -
A CGPA score of 3.35 and the highest in Manipur till date and second in the North East.
This is certainly a feather in the cap for Don Bosco College, Maram and hats off to the college authority.
This is all that more remarkable given the fact that education at the college level in Manipur is nothing to write home about.
This is one reason why thousands of students make a beeline for other parts of the country once the Class XII results are announced.
Will do the State Education Department and the State Government a whole lot of good to take a leaf out from this college and see how its approach to education can be applied in the other educational institutions, particularly in colleges.
The latest achievement has also put Maram on the map of education and this is something which Senapati district needs.
It also says something significant that while it is a college located in the hill district which has made it to the news for all the right reasons, no college in Imphal has managed to make it to the list.
This should be a reminder to all that no one should play around with the future of the young students.
Time also right to ask whether it makes any sense to use students in issues which are strictly adult matters.
At the moment, the toast of the State should be Don Bosco College, Maram and hopefully other educational institutions too should learn something from this achievement.
The achievement is all that more significant given the fact that the CGPA score of 3.35 is given by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, which is an autonomous body funded by the University Grants Commission.
That Don Bosco College, Maram is an educational institution worth its name can be gauged from the consistently good showing demonstrated by the students year after year.
Set up just in 2001, the college is rather young, but if the good show continues there is every reason to believe that it can become an academic institution worth emulating in the entire North East.
DM College is another institution that comes to mind, when one talks of excellence, but today all the fame seem to be something about the past. It would help if sincere efforts are put in to regain some of the lost sheen.
What makes the achievement of Don Bosco College, Maram all that more noteworthy is the point that it has been set up at Maram, a village in Senapati district.
And everyone knows how tough life can be at the village level, more so in the hills.
It is here that the efforts of the college administrators, the faculty members, students, the parents and guardians and the overall atmosphere at Senapati need to be acknowledge.
Only 14 years old but already Don Bosco College, Maram has made a name for itself and this is not something easy.
Lead on and let others learn a lesson or two from this institution.
