Festival to bring back Manipur's salad days
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, April 5:
A 12-day festival here is aiming to restore the state's "salad days". For singju, a traditional Manipuri salad that has both vegetarian and non-vegetarian variety, was once the stuff that brought romance into the lives of the youth in the state.
The festival, being organised in Imphal East, hopes to preserve and promote singju for posterity. It opened at Nungshikol Park at Chana of Lamlai Assembly constituency, nearly 17km east of here and attracted lovers of the healthy and nutritious food.
"Our objective of organising the festival is to preserve our culture and identity by preserving singju, which has several herbs of high medicinal value," Rakesh Naorem, spokesperson for the organisers, said. "Singju symbolises unity."
