Early Career Personal Research Fellowships
Applications are invited for Early Career Personal Research Fellowships, with a minimum tenure of 3½ years, to be held at any engineering academic or research unit in Wales, UK. Fellows will be appointed at a minimum salary of £32k p.a. (or the nearest point in the institution’s pay scales). The closing date for applications is 18th August 2014.
These Fellowships are aimed at providing career development opportunities for post-doctoral researchers who, whilst being at a relatively early stage of their careers, have a proven record of research. It is hoped that the appointment would lead to a permanent academic position for the individual, either within the same or another institution in Wales. During their tenure, Fellows are expected to undertake a significant research project under their own leadership which meets the definition of “international excellence” according to the UK Research Excellence Framework guidelines.
The National Research Network in Advanced Engineering and Materials was established in September 2013 as a partnership comprising Swansea University Cardiff University, Bangor University and TWI-NDT Centre Wales, and funded by the Welsh Government and Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW). The aim of the network is to enhance fundamental collaborative research in advanced engineering and materials in Wales, leading to increased research capacity; greater grant capture from competitive sources; improved engagement with research users; and more effective knowledge transfer and outreach activities. The Network has identified three key themes of research, namely: Materials and Innovative Manufacturing Processes; Advanced Sensors and Devices; and Novel Modelling Techniques and applications are invited in any of these areas. Fellows will also be expected to help deliver the aims and targets of the National Research Network in Advanced Engineering and Materials.
