Felling ban in reserve forest areas

High Court of Manipur, in an interim order, banned the cutting of trees and extraction of earth from reserve forest areas in the state. It asked government authorities to get permission from the court to cut trees or for digging in reserve forest areas.
The high court passed the interim order on August 30 following a petition filed by Mutum Inaobi Singh, the chairman of Safe Environment Campaign Committee, a citizens group of Imphal East district working for conservation of environment.Inaobi filed the PIL on August 28.
