Faculty Positions at the South Asian University

First academic session of the university would commence in August 2010. The University has openings for faculty positions at the level of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant professor in following Faculties:
* Faculty of Economics (5 positions)
* Faculty of Mathematical Sciences & Information and Communication Technology (6 positions)
* Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology (2 positions)
Faculty members selected in the Faculty of Economics would have an immediate responsibility of running a 2-year M.A. (Development Economics) programme to commence from August 2010. Faculty members selected in the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences & Information and Communication Technology would have an immediate responsibility of running a 3-year Master of Computer Application (MCA) programme to commence from August 2010. Faculty members selected in the Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology would be responsible for setting up of Life Sciences / Biotechnology training and research laboratories / facilities and thereafter participate in running a M.Sc. (Biotechnology) programme that would be offered from August 2011. Proposed outline of the academic programme is available here for reference. (Outlines of M.Sc. Biotechnology programme)
All faculty members will also participate in additional academic programmes to be introduced gradually by their respective Faculties and will be expected to guide Ph.D. students in their respective research areas.
All appointments would initially be contract appointments for 5 years following which the contract may be extended or terminated or converted into a tenure appointment based upon evaluation of the performance of the incumbent at the University.
Candidate from the eight SAARC Member States are especially encouraged to apply for these teaching positions. Applications from suitable candidates from countries outside the SAARC region will however also be considered. Interested candidates may apply for a position at an appropriate level depending upon their expertise and experience. Essential and desirable qualifications and the salaries and service benefits for different levels of positions to be offered are given below:
Essential and desirable qualifications for Faculty positions
Professor: An eminent scholar with evidence of outstanding scholarship and international recognition
Essential qualifications: Ph.D. degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grades at master’s level, in the relevant subject area. Research and postgraduate teaching experience of at least 10 years (excluding the period spent for obtaining the research degree).
Desirable qualifications:
* High quality research publications in journals of repute.
* Experience in guiding doctoral research
* For laboratory based research in sciences, proven ability to get research funding from National / International granting agencies.
* Experience in university administration by having held high administrative positions would be an added advantage.
Associate Professor:
Essential qualifications: Ph.D. degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grades at Master’s level, in the relevant subject area. Postgraduate research and teaching experience of at least 5 years (excluding the period spent for obtaining the research degree)
Desirable qualifications:
* High quality research publications in journals of repute
* Experience in guiding doctoral research students
* For laboratory based research in sciences, proven ability to get research funding from National / International granting agencies.
Assistant Professor:
Essential qualifications: Ph.D. degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grades at Master’s level, in the relevant subject area.
Desirable qualifications:
* Published work in reputed journals / books
* Some post-doctoral research / teaching experience
Salaries and Benefits:
Thesalary structure for faculty members at SAU is:
Professor: US$ 30,000 to 45,000 PA
Associate Professor: US$ 20,000 to 35,000 PA
Assistant Professor: US$ 15,000 to 25,000 PA
Initial salary of the selectees will be fixed on case-to-case basis depending upon the academic record, experience and performance history of each selectee. A 3% annual increment in salary and a cost of living increase (to be decided each year by the university) is proposed to be provided on an annual basis. The following additional benefits are also proposed:
* Once SAU campus is complete, on-campus unfurnished residential accommodation will be provided to all faculty members on payment of a nominal license fee. Faculty members not availing of the campus accommodation or in the period before the campus is ready, will be paid 25% of their salary as house rent allowance.
* An amount equal to 10% of salary will be contributed in a pension fund of employee’s choice(there is no provision for pension in the university).
* The University will offer specific medical insurance plansandpay 50% of the health insurance premium for the faculty member and his / her dependent family members.
* Faculty members recruited from outside India will be entitled to a relocation allowance for travel along with family members, also covering the cost of transporting household goods and luggage. The allowance will be payable at actuals with an upper ceiling of one month’s salary.
* Salary and allowances of the SAU faculty members will be free of Indian income tax.
* Faculty members may also avail of exemption of VAT and excise taxes on major personal purchases (e.g. car and appliances) as notified by the Government, from time to time.

* On the Publications page, please include only those research publications that were peer-reviewed. Please do not include abstracts under publications. Magazine and newspaper articles should not be included.
* Under “honors, awards and distinctions”, please include only significant national and international recognitions. These would include Elected Fellowships of Prestigious professional Academies, competitive scholarships, medals, orations, invited memberships to prestigious bodies, and consultancies. Please do not include paid memberships of professional bodies and memberships of internal bodies of the institution where you work etc,
