Experts for new building technology in Manipur
Assam Tribune | Sobhapati Samom | Imphal, April 30
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) experts have recommended the Confined Masonry (CM) buildings as an alternative for the earthquake-prone States like Manipur as it is less expensive and requires lesser involvement of engineers in design and construction.
CM is a technology that can perform very well in earthquakes. In CM construction, which uses the same basic materials of concrete and brick, the masonry walls carry the seismic loads and the concrete is used to confine the walls. This is in contrast to RCC frame buildings with infills where the concrete frames need to carry the load.
