TODAY -
Enclosure
Masopam Kasar *
That happy childhood playgrounds and hideouts
unbounded by commercial
now turn to private summer houses and parks.
The paths we hold dear
now enclosed by barbed wires
with a notice board stuck to a bark-
"Trespassers will be Prosecuted".
As if the bird will learn to fly in obedience
knowing not to fly thither hence-
beyond lies the restricted area,
or the insects tamed to crawl out in reverence
bowing to the new manager.
All the flowers and the plants now
lie on the level plain each marked
with a market price.
The usual place now needs a ticket for entry.
They say it's a maintenance fee.
Once in a while we pay visit.
