Education Minister, Manipur meets new Union HRD Minister at New Delhi

Hon’ble Education Minister, Manipur Shri Moirangthem Okendro called on the new Union Human Resources Development Minister Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani in her office at Shastri Bhavan, New Delhi today, the 19th June, 2014. During the meeting that lasted for about 30 minutes, Hon’ble Education Minister, Manipur raised various important issues of the State pertaining to Education sector.
Shri Okendro highlighted that Manipur is a State which does not have industry, trade & commerce, natural resources or locational advantage and therefore the Education sector is very crucial and important to ensure that the future of the students and youths of Manipur are nurtured properly to achieve their best potentials.
Hon’ble Education Minister, Manipur thanked the Ministry of HRD for the approval for conversion of the various DM Colleges as a cluster into a State University under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) with Central Govt. Financial support, which was approved by the Project Approval Board of RUSA on 13th May, 2014 and invited the Union HRD Minister for the foundation laying function at Imphal shortly. Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Human Resources Development Minister, Govt. of India accepted the invitation and sought a convenient date for the same.
Hon’ble Education Minister, Manipur highlighted the plight of 421 Part-Time Lecturers of Govt. Colleges who had put in 16-20 years of service at very paltry emoluments and who have crossed the maximum age for recruitment and requested for a compassionate consideration on the proposal of the State Govt. for assistance under RUSA for their absorption into regular service.
Hon’ble Education Minister, Manipur appraised the initiative undertaken by the Dept. of Hr. & Tech. Edn., Govt. of Manipur for setting up 300-Bedded Hostel-cum-Counselling & Career Guidance Centres for students of Manipur who flock every year to Delhi, Bengaluru, etc. for consideration under RUSA. Union HRD Minister assured setting up of atleast 2 (two) Hostels for Girl Students from North-East States in Delhi and also mentioned that she had deliberated the setting up of such Hostels in Delhi and Bengaluru with the Union DoNER Minister by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. She was seized of the importance and urgency of such initiatives to safeguard the students from North East India, particularly girls and assured of her unstinted support.
On behalf of the Governor of Manipur and the Manipur University, Hon’ble Education Minister, Manipur also invited the new Union Human Resources Development Minister Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani to grace the Foundation Day of Manipur University on 13th October, 2014 marking the conversion of MU into a Central University.
Various issues pertaining to SSA and RMSA were also raised by Hon’ble Education Minister, Manipur in the meeting. Project proposals with DPRs were also submitted to MHRD today for setting up 5 (five) new Govt. B.Ed. Colleges in each of the 5 (five) Hill Districts of Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Senapati and Chandel under Central funding.
On behalf of the Govt. of Manipur, Hon’ble Education Minister, Manipur presented the State Emblem of “Kangla Sha” alongwith a painting to the new Union Human Resources Development Minister during the meeting. Hon’ble Education Minister, Manipur was accompanied by Shri P. Vaiphei, IAS, Commissioner (Hr. & Tech. Edn.), Govt. of Manipur in the above meeting.
