Eastern Army Commander, Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi visits Manipur
The Eastern Army Commander, Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi arrived in Manipur yesterday on a two day tour to review the security situation ahead of the Manipur elections.
On arrival at Imphal, he was received by the Spear Corps Commander Lt Gen Anil Chauhan who accompanied him on an aerial recce of NH-37 and briefed him on the security situation. The Army Commander was given an update on the overall security situation.
The Army Commander also visited important locations in the state to include Gaidimganj, Bishenpur, Senapati and Mantripukhri where he was briefed by the GOC Red Shield Division, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) and local commanders on the security situation and the measures taken to ensure a conducive atmosphere for conduct of free and fair elections. The General Officer appreciated the synergy between the Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and CAPFs in Manipur which he emphasised critical for restoring normalcy.
During his interactions with officers and men on ground, the Army Commander complimented all ranks for their high levels of operational preparedness and exhorted them to conduct people-friendly operations while remaining alert to thwart the designs of insurgents. He urged them to maintain relentless pressure on insurgent groups while continuing with civic action programmes tailor-made to improve the quality of living of the local population.
The Army Commander also greeted the people of Manipur ahead of Yaosang (Holi) celebrations on 12 Mar and wished that the festival would bring in joy and prosperity.
