Don't insult us
- Hueiyen Lanpao Editorial :: May 22 2015 -
Long time back people had stopped expecting anything from the spineless Congress ministry whose administration does not extend beyond Imphal and its immediate vicinity.
But the last thing people expected was the way they are insulted by implying that they are calling the strike on Dzükou even before they know whether the entire valley or only a part of it is in Manipur.
In other words, Okram Ibobi who is frantically searching for a bolt hole as an escape route is accusing the people of putting the cart before the horse.
He maintains it is yet to be established whether Manipur is the owner of the entire valley and the Manipur government will decide it with its Nagaland counterpart.
It is a sad pass that the government does not know it despite decades of border irritants.
Even a bumpkin at Mao knows that the valley has been a part and parcel of Manipur and that is why Mao Council is taking up the cudgels now.
Why wait till the end of the ADC polls?
Why did the government ignore the memoranda of the Mao Councl in this regard?
Once the construction of the guest house and road was started, Ibobi should have taken it up with Zeliang since SAPO was underpinned by the government.
During Keishing's time, there was a similar face-off necessitating spot visit by government officials who took a detour through Angami areas.
But students "arrested them" and instead of releasing these bona fide employees, they were dumped in lock up.
They were released only at the intervention of the centre. There had been disputes including torchings of Liyai Khnnou village near Tongjoy and Jessami side also.
There had been reports of authorities from the neighbouring State even intruding into Senapati to arrest some villagers.
Despite these sustained provocations, the lotus eaters in Manipur government have been wallowing in pleasure and busy with other well known works.
From his irresponsible statements on Thursday at Congress office, the Chief Minister was only a few inches short of calling the Mao Council and other numerous NGOs the ones who are stoking up non- issues.
Instead of insulting the people and the NGOs in this manner it would have been more graceful if the Government admitted its monumental failure in protecting the territory.
Successive ministries which incidentally are Congress ones had dismally failed to protect Manipur’s interests. Ibobi ought to know that his inflammatory statement will be fuel to fire.
