Disturbing all round trust deficit : Walk together for justice
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: April 30 2016 -
The trust deficit is disturbing.
On April 28, Imphal and its surrounding areas were literally paralysed due to the twin bandh imposed by two JACs, both formed in connection with unnatural deaths.
Deaths are unfortunate and while everyone will understand the grief and pain of the bereaved families and their near and dear ones, it is also true that some elements are out there to hijack the real issue and create trouble for everyone.
Of the twin bandh, one is over, but there is as yet no indication that the bandh imposed along Imphal-Lilong road will be lifted anytime in the near future.
As widely reported, tension began to run high when two men, both from Imphal, were found dead under questionable circumstances at Lilong Haoreibi and the other at Kangkum village, in Ukhrul district.
Now tension running high in the event of any unnatural death is natural but what is disturbing to note is that the tension seems to be veering towards a sort of confrontation between different communities.
If the two men from Imphal were murdered or killed, does it make any sense to identify the killer/s with any particular community ?
Were the two killed because they happened to belong to a particular community ?
Unpalatable questions, but posers which are needed given the fact that everything here today is being interpreted along communal line.
This is not acceptable and this is where every right thinking individual ought to come forward and try to drill some sense into the heads of the trouble makers.
This is not the first time that tension is running high between two groups of people in the valley after two youths were lynched at Mayang Imphal some time back.
And it is after this that another youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Lilong area a few days back.
The assault of two persons at Kakwa area during the bandh imposed by the JAC just a few days back has only added to the air of all pervading suspicion.
And as the Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) so rightfully pointed out, if the situation is not brought under control, then it has the potential to blow into something bigger and more ugly.
This is where the Government ought to get its act together.
As the Pangal Students’ Organisation, Manipur questioned, why has the Government not come out with the possible cause of the death of Prashanta ?
Or is it the policy of the Government not to rely on ‘possibilities’ and instead wait until a definite answer is found ?
As to what happened at Ukhrul, the Government should get down to the basics and see how the youth died. Time to get its investigating machinery working.
Unfortunate it is that two youths have passed away under mysterious circumstances and it is only right that all join hands and see how to crack the two cases.
This is not the time to point accusing fingers at any particular community but to walk together for justice.
