Disqualification of 7 MLAs (NPF), Nagaland

Regarding the proceedings of the Guwahati High Court judgment on the Disqualification of the 7 MLAs (NPF), the Naga People’s Front informed that the court in its latest hearing on 2nd June 2020, has directed Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly to conclude the disqualification proceedings and pass appropriate orders within a period of 6 (six) weeks time.
The Court has directed the petitioners as well as the respondent to appear before the respondent either in person or through their authorized representatives on 8th June 2020 to receive further instructions to enable the respondent to conclude the proceeding within the specific period of time allotted by the Court.
It may be mentioned that the ratio of the judgment rendered by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Keisham Meghachandra Singh (supra), in the instant case have notice that the Disqualification petitions were filed on 24th April 2019, which is more than 13 (thirteen) months by now.
However, at the same time, it is also noticed that substantial progress have already been made in the adjudicatory process of the Disqualification Petitions by the Speaker leading to framing of issues as far back as on 21st March 2020.
But having noted the fact that issues to be decided in the Disqualification Petitions have already been framed on 21st March 2020 and thereafter, no further progress have been made in the proceeding, so the Court is of the considered view has directed the Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly to conclude the Disqualification Proceedings in a given time allotted.
Since, the Hon'ble High Court has already directed the Hon'ble Speaker, NLA to decide the Disqualification case of the 7 NPF MLAs within the 6th Weeks, the NPF party had the hoped that the Hon'ble Speaker will use his good office in adjudicating the matter without any further delay and with fairness.
