Crisis of Electricity in Manipur: Is There a Way Out?
Date: 6th January (Wednesday), 2011, 1: 30 p.m.
Venue: Imphal Hotel
About this Discussion: The issue of sustainable energy is at the root of any notion of 'development' in particular and contemporary life of the people in general. Electricity is the most visible aspect of that issue of energy. Manipur has been going through a crisis of electricity, particularly during the last decade.
This crisis has affected various aspects of our life in the state, from economy to social life, should not have been missed. We have lived with a darkness that should remind us to seek for a solution- which we have delayed or two long.
What does this speak of us as a people and Manipur as a state?
What are the facts and the fictions behind this crisis of electricity in the state?
What can be done to overcome this crisis and who can do it?
What are the ways towards a more sustainable and adequate electric power production, supply and demand in the state?
To discuss these issues and also to evolve concrete action plan, we are organizing a public discussion on 'Crisis of electricity in Manipur: Is there a way out?' at Imphal Hotel on 6th January (Wednesday), 2011 at 2 p.m.
The following speakers shall lead the discussion
- Prof. Amar Yumnam, Manipur University
- R.K. Kishore, Additional Chief Engineer, Electricity Department, Govt. of Manipur
- Pradip Phanjoubam, Editor, Imphal Free Press
- Meihoubam Rakesh, Human Rights and Legal Network
- P. Arunkumar, President, Consumer Club Manipur.
As a citizen and a stakeholder, you are cordially invited to join us in the deliberation.
