- Part 2 -

We have published about different options related to skill development and how one young person may build his or her career through skill development. In the past, we had mentioned about some of the institute which are related to skill development.
Here are some more agencies or organisations related to skill development in the country.
NSDA: The National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) was notified through a gazette notification dated 6th June, 2013. NSDA is an autonomous body of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, which will coordinate and harmonize the skill development efforts of the Government and the private sector to achieve the skilling targets of the 12th Plan and beyond and endeavour to bridge the social, regional, gender and economic divide by ensuring that the skilling needs of the disadvantaged and marginalized groups like SCs, STs, OBCs, minorities, women and differently-abled persons are taken care of through the various skill development programmes and by taking affirmative actions as part of advocacy by the NSDA.
The Central Ministries and NSDC will continue to implement schemes in their remit. The NSDA will anchor the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) and facilitate the setting up of professional certifying bodies in addition to the existing ones.
NSDC: The National Skill Development Corporation is a one of its kind, Public Private Partnership in India, under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. It aims to promote skill development by catalyzing creation of large, quality, for-profit vocational institutions. NSDC provides funding to build scalable, for-profit vocational training initiatives.
Its mandate is also to enable support systems such as quality assurance, information systems and train the trainer academies either directly or through partnerships. NSDC acts as a catalyst in skill development by providing funding to enterprises, companies and organisations that provide skill training.
It will also develop appropriate models to enhance, support and coordinate private sector initiatives. The differentiated focus for the 21 sectors under NSDC’s purview and its understanding of their viability will make every sector attractive to private investment.
PMKVY: Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana is a unique initiative by the Government of India that aims to offer 24 lakh Indian youth meaningful, industry relevant, skill based training. Under this scheme, the trainees will be offered a financial reward and a government certification on successful completion of training and assessment, which will help them in securing a job for a better future.
In the past there were more talk about vocational training but now we are talking about development and change through skill. Skill development is not limited to only one or two sector but it is spreading across sectors and there is more opportunity for our young people to take up the courses and start their ventures or get employment in different places. We shall write about different initiatives in the state of Assam and other North Eastern states in coming editions.
