Democracy is not only about election :: New upcoming book

Democracy is one of most applauded form of government in the Modern world and one of the largest, biggest practitioners of the said government system is India. But it is not about election or adult franchise alone and much beyond electoral voting and adult franchise.
The upcoming book, Democratization Process in North East India- some issues and challenges, co edited by S Thianlalmuan Ngaihte and L.T. Sasang Guite looks at various facets and context of democracy vis a vis the North East states of India. These include gender, identity, civil society, tradition and customs. It also looks at the challenges in the process of democratization process in term of administration, governances and socio political life of the North East people.
The book contained a diverse perspective and observations / outlook on democracy, democratic systems and practices , its challenges in a region like North east India, that underwent decades of violent socio political conflict.
Contributors in the book comprise of renowned scholars, writers , academicians, administrators and researchers and civil society leaders.
A culmination of a seminar held earlier on the same topic , is aimed at promoting and encouraging further research and deliberations among students, scholars and academicians, general public and community leaders. The edited book is relevant and contextual in these crucial times that confront the North East Region.
Published by Gyan Publishing House, New Delhi and priced at Rs 550, the book will be out on the stand next month.
